I've been a big fan of Bill Simmons for a long time. If you're a sportsball fan or a degenerate sports-gambler, such as myself, then you'll recognize the name. I was a fan of the BS Podcast when Simmons was on ESPN, and a much bigger fan when he stood up to his then employer (ESPN) by criticizing the NFL commissioner Rodger Goodell even though ESPN and the NFL had a tight partnership. He was then suspended by ESPN for the criticism. He came back to his old job for a short while before starting his new company, The Ringer.

The Ringer, a primarily sports commentary organization, also comments on the culture from a mostly progressive perspective. Simmons himself is a very progressive person, something I don't hold against him. Simmons often has progressive figures on his Ringer podcast, The Bill Simmons Podcast, and I like to listen to them so I get a good representation of what the 'other side' thinks.

Simmons recently had a podcast titled, A Truly Sad Day in America, where he talked about riots and protests with another Ringer host Ryen Russillo. He then made a mistake not forgivable in the current cultural climate, he, as a white man, said he believes The Ringer is doing a good job at giving opportunities to a diverse group of people. As we all know, this doesn't go over well with the mob.

The New York Times (a former newspaper) and the social media mob came with torches and pitchforks because they didn't believe he is doing enough. Now, whether of not you believe the representation at your or any company reflects the population racially, that isn't a very important characteristic in a non-racist society. But Simmons was forced to apologize anyways.

I bring this up, even though most of you may not care, because this is a man who stood up against a massive company like ESPN with a ton of power, but stood down for the mob. Never stand down to a mob by using reason and logic because a mob doesn't value those things. Simmons is someone I looked up to because he stood for what he believed, even if I didn't believe in the same things.

I don't want to become someone who only listens to his own side because I can't tolerate listening to the other, but I can no longer listen to The Ringer and will now be less informed on what the 'other side' thinks and that is what is truly damaging as a result of this nonsense (not making this about me but trying to make a more general point). We can't listen to each other if we lose respect for one another.

Do any of you have a similar story?

Should the politicians drink the water if they claim it's safe?

I was listening to some news updates when I heard this CNN clip about the potentially hazardous water in East Palestine, and as soon as I heard her ask the question about whether or not her guest would drink the water, I IMMEDIATELY thought of this clip from South Park. Enjoy.

Happy New Year!

Have y'all listened to the recent Jordan Peterson and Michael Malice discussion? Fantastic exploration into how normal people fool themselves into participating in hell on earth, and calling it necessary.
