This last week or so has been a little depressing. I try to avoid social media because it only amplifies the dispiriting atmosphere. I can even tell in some of my latest posts, they are never very uplifting. I’ve been trying to find ways to bring a bit more cheer and happiness in my life, and I found something right here on Locals that has been doing it for me.
The Smile Syndicate Music Hour Podcast by Liz from @SmileSyndicate (and @SmileSyndicateJ I believe) has been one of the funniest and strangely uplifting podcasts I’ve listened to in a while. I’ve been going around to a bunch of different Locals Communities to check everyone out and support this new platform (if I’m not a part of your community, let me know and I’ll join). The @SmileSyndicate Locals Community is one of the first communities I joined, and I honestly didn’t think it would be my thing at first. I’m no artist, the musical spectrum I listen to spans from Slipknot to Linkin Park, and I don’t trust Canadians as a general rule (their hands are always sticky with maple syrup). But I have found myself laughing hysterically and really enjoying this podcast and original music.
If you listen to 100 podcasts a day like I do, and most of those podcasts are political so they’re always depressing, I would highly recommend throwing in a non-political podcast to break the non-stop stress induced by people who want to rule your lives. The @SmileSyndicate does that for me, and I hope you give it a listen.
Side Note: This isn’t a planned advertisement or anything. I just genuinely enjoy the @SmileSyndicate Locals Community, and I won’t hold the whole Canadian thing against them. The Engineering Politics Locals Community is growing fast and I want to make sure I use this platform, supported by all of you, to help other communities grow. I will try to do more of these ‘plugs’ in the future to show support for other Locals Communities.
I was listening to some news updates when I heard this CNN clip about the potentially hazardous water in East Palestine, and as soon as I heard her ask the question about whether or not her guest would drink the water, I IMMEDIATELY thought of this clip from South Park. Enjoy.
In this special episode of The Engineering Politics Podcast, Truman from Return To Reason is back for a new video and podcast series titled ‘Revisiting The Road To Serfdom’ where we review F.A. Hayek’s classic work, The Road To Serfdom. This episode covers ‘Chapter 15: The Prospects of International Order’.
This will be an ongoing series that covers the entire book. We put a ton of work into making this insightful and relevant, so we hope you enjoy watching/listening as much as we enjoyed reading and recording.

In this episode of The Engineering Politics Podcast, I team up with Truman from @ReturnToReason to interview one of the most intelligent and influential creators in the space of philosophy today. Stephen R.C. Hicks is a Professor of Philosophy at Rockford University, Executive Director of the Center for Ethics and Entrepreneurship, and Senior Scholar at The Atlas Society. He has written many books including Explaining Postmodernism and Nietzsche and the Nazis. We bring him on to talk about the social and political issues we are currently facing in America, and the West more broadly, and what the collectivist ideas of Jean-Jacques Rousseau might have to do with it.
