Wisconsin County Tells Woke Activists, “Not Today Lefties. Not Today.”

I normally advise not reading The New York Times, a former newspaper, but this story interested me when it came across my Facebook feed (in an “anti-racist” group I am in so I can follow what silly nonsense they are doing) and because I grew up a few counties over from Marathon County, WI. Apparently, the Marathon County Board has been debating a resolution titled “A Community For All” that is meant to bring racial equity to a county that is 91% white. At no point in this article does the author refer to any sources that imply any racial disparities in the county, and the only supporting evidence used to advocate for this resolution was the George Floyd shooting (in a different state).

The first thing I did was to read through the article trying to find what the resolution was about. There was no link to government text. There was no real scope given for the resolution in this article. The only hint towards what is in the resolution was the author stating the document was to “achieve racial and ethnic equity to foster cross-cultural understanding and advocate for minority populations.” This broad statement feeds into the issues I already have with these so called “resolutions” because there is no practical purpose or scope of implementation when the board debates them. I read the whole article and the author never expands on what the resolution is about.

After I did my own digging on the internet machine, I found some text for the resolution, but, unfortunately, it did not make me feel like I understood the resolution much better than I did before. Here is some text:

“WHEREAS, the Marathon County Diversity Affairs Commission was charged by the Marathon County Board of Supervisors (the “Board”) to ensure that Marathon County is an open, inclusive, and diverse place to live and work and to achieve racial and ethnic equity to foster cross-cultural understanding and advocate for minority populations throughout Marathon County…
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes diversity, inclusion, and equity as essential to a positive and healthy life within our communities and is committed to the goals of ensuring that everyone is welcome within the county’s borders and the protection and preservation of the rights, freedoms, safety, and security of all its residents.”

This read like most HR department statements covering what is already legally protected anti-discrimination law. So, I ask you, what is the practical purpose of this resolution?

Does it just set a precedent for future policy? Or is this just meant to make board members and resolution advocates feel good about themselves? I am worried it is a combination of both vanity and an excuse for future woke policy, but a majority of the county board had the foresight to shut it down. Good for them.

Should the politicians drink the water if they claim it's safe?

I was listening to some news updates when I heard this CNN clip about the potentially hazardous water in East Palestine, and as soon as I heard her ask the question about whether or not her guest would drink the water, I IMMEDIATELY thought of this clip from South Park. Enjoy.
