So, I'm trying to finish up a part of my review of The True Believer tonight and the power went out. It saved most of my work but it took a while for the internet to come back on. After a while, I was able to get back to writing my review until the power went out again. We've had a few power outages this year, so I didn't think much of it.
Then my fiancé called me on her way home from work and told me the main road running behind our house was blocked off by police - like a ton of police. While I was on the phone with her I decided to look up the road by name to see if there was any news... and I found this headline at the top of the searches: 1 dead, state investigating after car plows into house.
A car filled with 5 people crashed into a house a few houses down from us. A 19-year-old kid died in the crash. I read on to learn this car was being chased by police before it crashed into someone's home with 6 people in the house at the time.
I'm sad for the young man who lost his life. I'm sad for anyone whose life is cut way too short. But man.... can we as a society come together and stop acting like avoiding police capture is something to be desired? I don't know the ages of everyone in the car or if this 19-year-old was the driver, but I could totally see the motivation for avoiding police capture might be driven by unwarranted fear of police integration, especially considering the kid who lost his life appears to be a black (not confirmed, but if it's the case, I could see rioting breaking out around here because of the police involvement).
My prayers are with the family of this young man and anyone else hurt in this accident. God help them to heal in a time where healing is so difficult.
I was listening to some news updates when I heard this CNN clip about the potentially hazardous water in East Palestine, and as soon as I heard her ask the question about whether or not her guest would drink the water, I IMMEDIATELY thought of this clip from South Park. Enjoy.
