For a long time now people from the Left and Right have argued the outsourcing of products, pharmaceuticals, and intellectual property is leading to the end of America as the giant on the world stage. Sure, that certainly isn't helping America's standing, but that's not the behavior that is causing this once great culture to crumble around us.
The outsourcing of knowledge, beliefs, and behavior is what's leading to America's demise. The average online debate between two warring friends is not a battle between each of their ideas. It's a battle between the ideas of one's favorite personality on CNN versus one's favorite personality on Fox News. The ideas, talking points, and slanted research are all outsourced to the personality they love most on whatever news network or podcast they religiously watch. Every dystopian future novel we read tells us societies fall when we are told what to think, but our society is falling because we don't want to think.
Don't fall into the trap of outsourcing your ideas. Read books from different authors. Follow people with competing ideas. Challenge yourself and really exercise your mind. Throw away the playbook because the rules of the game are changing.
